Pistachios

1page img2Pistachio is one of the most ancient delicacies: pistachio trees were planted by people of ancient Babylon and Assyria.

When pistachios are ripening, their shells slightly open as if they are smiling (in Iran this nut even called khandan - «laughing»). Under the shell there’s green colored kernel and the more intense of the color is, the more mellow is kernel. Pistachios have a high calorie content up to 60% fatty oil, and 18% vegetable protein and carbohydrates, and minerals such as copper, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, amino acids and vitamins B and E. Pistachios are nuts of a good mood. They have a bracing, tonic and restorative effect.

They help during period of strenuous exercise, because they remove fatigue and gives energy to the human body, raising overall feelings after hard illnesses. Pistachio nuts are eaten fresh and roasted, added to baked goods, ice cream and desserts. It’s a good snack for beer and wine
